Another Phone Virus On The Loose!

Skulls is a malicious SIS file that will replace the system applications with non-functional versions, so that all but the phone functionality will be disabled.

The Skulls SIS file is named "Extended theme.SIS", it claims to be theme manager for Nokia 7610 smart phone, written by "Tee-222".

Please do not install the file into your 7610 (particularly) because once you are affected, you 7610 will not work except for receiving and making calls.

How to Determine Prayer Times

I picked up this info from Selamat Pagi Malaysia, should be real handy for Muslim travellers out there.

How to Determine Prayer Times:

1. Determine the sunrise and sunset time. An easier way is that you acquire this info from local folks. Some magazine and newspaper might have this information.

2. Subuh prayer is before sunrise so you can pray around an hour before that.

3. Maghrib prayer start at sunset and last for about an hour. Then obviously Isya' is after that.

4. Zuhr prayer is halfway through sunrise and sunset time. So if sunrise at 6am and sunset at 6pm so Zuhr is at 12pm.

5. Asar prayer time is halfway through between Zuhr and sunset. Let say Zuhr is at 12pm and sunset at 6pm then Asar prayer is at 3pm.

Remember this, who knows you might end up in Russia or Iceland where Muslims are hard to find. Anyway, Eid Mubarak to all! And drive safely!

Syukur Alhamdulillah...

Just got my exam result for Semester 1 2004/2005 via SMS. Thanks a lot to Adil for telling me that the result is out today. My CGPA is 3.835 and scoring A for all subjects except for Physics and Chemistry which I only got A-. That's due to my not so excellent marks for the assignmensts and quizzes for both subjects. Anyway, I'm quite statisfied with my achievement although I should do a lot better for the asignments and quizzes.

Thanks a lot to my lecturers and friends who helped me to understand the myriad concepts and problem solving. Also congratulations to Ustaz Jasri who is getting married after Eidul Fitr. Hmmm, wonder what my classmates pointer is - Muslim most probably would achieve 4-flat. Adnan and Zakiri also are among the top-scorers. But oddly most people are having problem getting the result via SMS - only Celcom numbers (both 013 and 019) could get the result pretty easily. The centre's website also not much of a help, most of us can't get the result and presented with a message saying that we entered the wrong matric number or IC - even worse, we probably have debts with university. Hmm, I have fines due with the library. ;) Shall pay it as soon as possible.

Eid Mubarak to all fellow bloggers and friends!

Again and Again

If you read through my blog nowadays it's more like a travel log to yours truly. Well, that's one of the main purpose I made this blog for. Or else all my tavelling wouldn't mean anything as I can't possibly remember how many time I went back and forth between KL, Kuantan and Muar. My stay at Bangi recently had been pretty interesting unlike the dull and boring days in Kuantan. Here after Terawih would mean I just go back home and do some reading or surfing before sleep. But in Bangi I get to hang out with friends and have a tour of Putra Jaya. Hehe. :D I also get to go to the Computer Fair at PWTC on Sunday as well. Not that I bought anything, just keeping up with IT rapid development. I just help my uncle to shop for a good digital video camera, that's it. :)

As for my work I helped to assess my uncle's office IT infrastructure. Hardware wise it's fine but there's many security holes and flaws so I patched it up but I didn't get to finish the job. I shall came back later to finish it up, the office shall be closed for a week anyway. The PCs had been networked but the lack of broadband connection mean each PC still use it's own dial-up connection and such setup is very expensive. So I reccomend him to get a brooadband connection as soon as possible. The other problem the office have is synchronising sales and customer records. Each PC have it's own record database and it's a hassle to keep track of the whole record. They have to manually merge the data each time and sometimes the data is incomplete. This is true especially when the data is being transported to another PC but at the same time new records came in. Even worse, they have three offices so the records can be real messy. Hmm, have to get someone who can deliver a solid online database solution to alleviate this problem.

Well, that's my ramblings for the time being. More stories later. :D

Net Ettiquette: Forwarded Emails

It's very common for Internet users to receive forwarded emails from friends, colleauges and family. The content is usually humorous or contains advices and announcements. But the problem is sometimes the email is illegitimate and misleading in nature. Sometimes it also could contain viruses or malicious programs so be careful but I won't elaborate on it today. We focus on the type of content for today.

The type of email I hate the most is the one that says if you don't forward the email you will suffer dire consequences and if you forward it you'll be blessed by God. This is an absolute insult to us as a Muslim who believe that only Allah S.W.T can grant any blessing or cause harm as a test to human being. A mere email couldn't possibly affect our daily life so please, don't forward such kind of email anymore.

The next scam is the one that happen in online services such as Friendster. Messages abound circling among the users saying that Friendster is about to be closed and you can only save it by forwarding the message. What a lame scam, do you think the system administrator would like unnecessary use of bandwidth with messages like this? Any announcement should come direct from the system administrator straight to your inbox. Or else you check out the press release or news section of the website. Most website have it and that's where legitimate official announcement is posted. Do verify it with a reputable source every time.

Last but not least is the email that claims for every email forwarded you will contribute some sum of money for a charitable course. Trust me, such method would not be used for donation. It's unreliable and mass forwarding would incurr unnecessary use of bandwidth. Once again, please check and verify the source, there's so many con artists around.

That's it for now and rest assured that I'm very annoyed with above stated emails. Well my friends, please help make the Internet as a better place for everybody. Do not forward emails unless deemed necessary.

Tech Update

Tax for PDAs?

This is an utterly ridiculous move by the Customs Department. In order for ICT to be accesible to all consumers should not be burdened with higher price of devices. The 10% tax will be applicable to PDAs with wireless connectivity such as WiFi and Bluetooth although Notebooks with Bulettoth and WiFi will not be affected.

Read more about it at the The Star Online.

iPod Photo

I'm simply stunned! Such a gorgeous device capable of storing and viewing the whole of my digital music and photo collection! Woohoo! Drool over the spec here.

Home Sweet Home

I'm back in Kuantan again yesterday but I won't be here for long (again). Just finished cleaning up dad's office in IIUM Kuantan, so many things to arrange and sort out. The office is just freshly painted peach in colour which is quite nice although it's pretty much typical for goverment buildings nowadays. Thanks a lot for the birthday wishes and the cake back in Pagoh. I really appreciate it. :D

Tomorrow I shall apply for an international passport, it's been a long time since I travelled abroad (I've only been to Singapore) although my 6-years old younger sister already have a passport for a year and been to Bangkok. What a bummmer. Nevermind, I haven't finished exploring my very own country yet - I'm yet to go to Labuan and Sabah so only after I went there I should think of an overseas destination.

As I said earlier, I won't be long in Kuantan - I'll travel to Bangi this Thursday. I'll be staying at Uncle Azman's house and do some work at his office. This should be an opportunity to have an insight into the business world. Bangi should be fun with many of my coursemates staying there - I'm pretty much all alone here in Kuantan because most of them is studying elsewhere and yet to have their break.

Blog again later, have to pack my stuffs. :)
